When it comes to shipping your furniture and appliances
to your new home there are numerous shipping companies
that can handle it for you, what you take just depends
on how attached you are to your goods.
You can take everything, or only ship items of sentimental
value and buy new goods when you arrive, its completely
up to you.
Everything shipped will be subject to customs and
quarintine inspections, its a good idea to check with
customs in your destination country if you are unsure
about any items you want to ship, animal skins or
products, plants or seeds, may not be allowed in.
Shipping containers can take several months to arrive
to their destination, so dont pack anything in them
that you think you will need as soon as you arrive.
While waiting for your container to be delivered it
can be a good idea to take a holiday in your new country
and explore your new surroundings.
Customs, especially in Australia and New Zealand,
are very strict. All items you are planning to ship
should be cleaned down. Garden items like lawnmowers
and tools, and sporting items like golf clubs should
be thoroughly cleaned and all traces of soil must
be removed.
Electrical Appliances
Australia and New Zealand have an electrical system
that is 240V therefore, in general, UK appliances
are OK. European appliances should also be ok, if
in doubt we suggest you check with the manufacturer.
The wall socket will be different than the UK but
you can buy an adapter, or get an electrician to fit
new plugs on your appliances.
Some TVs may have a problem playing sound but can
generally be fixed for a small fee. If you definately
want to take your TV with you it may be worth checking
with the manufacturer. DVD players in Australia and
New Zealand are set at region 4 (UK and Europe are
region 2) which means that if your DVD player is region
specific you will not be able to play Australian or
New Zealand DVD's in it. If your DVD player is multi-region
you wont have a problem. If you are planning to buy
a new DVD player when you arrive make sure you buy
a multi-region one so you can play any DVDs you have
brought over with you.
